SHAH ALAM, AUG 15: The State Government must study the direction of the agricultural sector to effectively strengthen its role.
That was the recommendation of Dr Syaufique Fahmi Sidque from the Agricultural Policy Studies Institute of Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), while referring to development in the industry that is seen as capable in driving the state’s economic growth.
“The population density in Selangor was highest in 2013 at 5.8 million, equivalent to 19% of the total Malaysian population.
“However, growth in the agricultural sector is not in line with the population’s growth rate.
“Hence a study must be conducted to set the direction of the agricultural sector in Selangor for it to be more effective,” he said.
He was speaking at the presentation session of the Budget 2017 Roundtable Discussion, at the Shah Alam Convention Centre.
Islamic Religious Affairs, Malay Customs & Heritage, Rural & Traditional Villages Development Exco Dato’ Dr Ahmad Yunus Hairi was also present to obtain feedback on proposals to improve agricultural programmes in 2017.
In 2013, there was an imbalance between the population and agricultural industrial growth.
In that capacity, the Agricultural Development Master Plan 2016-2025 was developed to intensify domestic agricultural resource production.
