1MDB scandal: Putrajaya betrayed army retirees’ trust

BY: ERMIZI MUHAMAD
WANGSA KERAMAT, SEP 8: Umno-Barisan Nasional has betrayed the trust placed in them in the form of military pensioners’ money, said KEADILAN Youth Chief Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad.
He said due to the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) scandal, the Act created to protect retirees’ welfare has been denied.
“The military’s pension money is a big responsibility for the purpose of protecting their welfare.
“It is on this basis that Akta Tabung Angkatan Tentera was created in 1973 to protect their financial standing and welfare.
“However, through the 1MDB scandal, this trust has been betrayed by the country’s leaders to satisfy their greed,” he said in the Majlis Dialog Prajurit, Wangsa Keramat here, on September 7.

Prior to this, KEADILAN had released a confidential document relating to a RM288 million fund being swindled into 1MDB in order to pay for loan interests incurred by the company induced by the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
However, the money transfer was found to be not in accordance with proper procedures as it had failed to get the necessary approval from the Board of Directors.
1MDB ostensibly denied the allegations and asked for the names of retirees who claimed that they faced delays in receiving their pension.
So far, KEADILAN has listed 110 names, who had reported delays in receiving their pension since 2013.
The Prime Minister has yet to issue any official statement in response to this allegation.
