State Government handling land tax arrears issue seriously

SHAH ALAM, NOV 3: The State Government took a number of actions against related parties, particularly defaulters, in an effort to reduce the land tax arrears in Selangor.
Dato’ Menteri Besar, Dato ‘Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, said the issue is being taken seriously, especially defaulters of more than five years, and that the state government is planning strategies to address it while monitoring it in collective effort through the Technical Committee of Monitoring Results.
He said the next step to reduce the arrears of land tax at the state level comprises the Selangor Treasury Revenue Management Division, Unit results in all Districts and Land Office, PTG Selangor and PTG Selangor Registration Division and the Information Technology Division.
“Some of the efforts that have been executed were the collecting annual land tax operations by the method of tracking the landowners concerned thus advise and give them a warning letter for them to carry out the responsibilities to complete their arrears.

“Besides that we accept the tax payment in instalments, giving a reduction of fees arrears or late fine for those who qualify, the act of confiscating if the landowners fails to settle the land tax arrears, opens an outside collection centre that channels through a moving van and add channels and methods of online payments while also receive payment at the counter of local authorities (PBT),” he said when winding up the State’s Budget 2017 at the Selangor State Assembly (DNS) here, today.
He said so in relation to the issue raised by Law Weng San (Kampung Tunku – DAP), namely the issue of rent arrears up to 30 September ago amounted to RM356 million and say there were arrears which has been more than 20 years.
Lim asked the State Government to deal with defaulters and proposed seizing the lands of those who do not want to pay the land tax.
