KAJANG, AUG 7: The State Government has set a target of building 1,000 kilometres (KM) of bicycle lanes across the country in five years.
Investment, Small & Medium Industries, Trade and Transport Exco, Dato’ Teng Chang Khim said, local authorities with City status must provide 20 KM bicycle lanes each year.
He said, local authorities with Municipality status must provide 10KM in their respective administrative area.

“Nevertheless, this year we are giving some leeway for Municipalities to provide 15KM first.
“If they fail to provide 15KM this year, it will be brought forward to next year where they would need to provide 35KM of bicycle lanes,” he said.
He was speaking at the Bandar Bukit Mahkota Community Hall Groundbreaking Ceremony and Smart Selangor Bus Route KJ02 and KJ03 Launch recently.
Teng said the bicycle route is a part of State Government’s agenda to provide a complete public transportation network to its citizens.
“I will monitor this myself so that the local authorities complete their tasks and we achieve the target.
“It requires everyone’s commitment to ensure Selangor continue to be the best with a perfect public transportation network to travel from home to destination,” he said.
