Hari Raya Aidiladha stays on Friday September 1

SHAH ALAM, AUG 23: The public are advised not to confuse the announcement of Aidiladha’s date as Hari Raya Haji remains on 10 Zulhijjah throughout Malaysia equivalent to Friday, September 1.
Director-General of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM), Tan Sri Othman Mustapha said, a committee had seen the moon on Tuesday and meaning 1 Zulhijjah 1438 Hijrah is Wednesday, August 23.
However, he has received reports so far there has been a misinformation regarding the date of the Hari Raya Haji announcement on two television channels.
“The actual date is 10 Zulhijjah on Friday for Hari Raya Haji,” he said to MSTAR ONLINE.
Othman explained that the standard operating procedure (SOP) on JAKIM’s side regarding the announcement of the date was correct as there was no error when it was announced on the RTM channel.
“We need to look back at where the mistakes are happening because I understand there were two television stations that broadcast them, others were okay.
“JAKIM has followed the correct SOP. We have to re-examine the SOP on their side there (which aired), “he said.
Asked whether the announcement of the Hari Raya Haji’s date should be re-made, Othman said it should not be done officially on television channels.
“This is because the peoples know that 1 Zulhijjah today (Wednesday) means 10 Zulhijjah will fall on Friday,” Othman said.
The confusion on Hari Raya Haji’s date came about after a mistake was announced by the Assistant Secretary of the Council of Rulers, Mohd Aseral Jusman through a television channel, up to viral in the social media.
He announced 1 Zulhijjah 1438 Hijrah on Aug 24 that makes Hari Raya Haji 10 Zulhijjah in Malaysia set on Saturday, September 2
