Free the rakyat, remove Batu Tiga toll

BY LIZAWATI MADFA
SHAH ALAM, SEP 1: The Federal Government is urged to free the people from the burden of paying the Batu Tiga toll and to also disclose the concession agreement details which has been kept a secret for a long time.
KEADILAN Central Leadership Council Member, Rodziah Ismail said, citizens have the right to know why they still need to pay toll when it should end in 2018 when the agreement expires.
“It is most strange that the Government had to compensate the concessionnaire company to control the toll price.
“Federal Government paid billions of ringgit to the highway concessionaire and we don’t know what is the compensation for,” she said in a statement.
Rodziah who is also the Batu Tiga Assemblyman said, the toll agreement is lopsided and merely favours the concessionnaire company.
Rodziah
She also added that the compensation paid was higher than the cost to construct the highway.
“A change in administration in Putrajaya shall see that all tolls including at the Federal Highway II, Batu Tiga and Sungai Rasau will be abolished in stages.
“Pakatan Harapan is a terminator of unreasonable tolls,” she said.
Plus Malaysia Berhad (PLUS) has said before that the original concessionnaire agreement for toll collection in Batu Tiga and Sungai Rasau should end in 2018, but it has been extended to 2038.
