Hospitals and clinics need high safety level

BY AKMAL NASIR
I take note of the incident last September 6 in Klinik Kesihatan Mahmoodiah, Johor Bahru where a part of the ceiling had suddenly collapse.
Although no injury was reported, I do hope that the government can review the safety level in every government hospital and clinic especially the old ones.
I really encourage the Health Ministry to perform a comprehensive audit on all government hospital buildings to determine its current safety standard.
Old hospitals or clinics need to be audited on its safety standard to determine any weaknesses and take immediate action to rectify, improve or upgrade to enhance their safety standard.
The most worrying this is that if left unchecked, it is most likely that the same incident or even worse may happen in the future.
On October 28, 2016, Health Minister, Datuk Seri Dr S Subramaniam himself said that old hospitals will go through a thorough safety audit.
Have this been done? Has the government identified all the weaknesses in the building maintenance and infrastructure in all the audited hospitals?
All government and private hospitals and clinics must have a high level of safety and occupational health to prevent any accident or injury on the public.
