Maintain highest GDP, Selangor is nation’s ‘Golden State’

SHAH ALAM, SEP 7: Selangor is the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) highest contributor for year ending 2016 which ultimately shows clearly the level of economic growth in the state.
Dato’ Menteri Besar, Dato’ Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali said, the positive growth is also the benchmark that shows the economy is moving in the right path now.
“According to the latest GDP report issued by Malaysian Department of Statistics (MDS), Selangor contributed 22.7%, ahead of other states.

“This success is a clear message to Putrajaya that Selangor is the country’s ‘Golden State’,” he said.
He said that in a speech at the Selangor International Business Summit 2017 at the Setia City Convention Centre (SCCC), this morning.
Mohamed Azmin said the positive growth is driven by competitive investment prospects in the state.
“Of course we are very happy that Selangor is again the highest contributor for two consecutive years with 22.6% or equivalent to RM240 billion in 2015.
“While for 2016, the contribution percentage increased to 22.7% proving that Selangor is a popular domestic and international investment destination.
MDS revealed that Selangor topped Federal Territory which ranked second with 15.5% contribution.
That is followed by Sarawak (9.8 %), Johor (9.4 %), Penang (6.7 %) and Sabah (6.7 %).
Eight states reportedly surpassed the national growth level (4.2%) in 2016.
Wilayah Persekutuan Labuan’s reported growth was (7.2 %), Johor (5.7 %), Penang (5.6 %), Selangor (4.8 %), Kelantan (4.8 %), Sabah (4.7 %) and Melaka (4.5 %).
