KOTA RAJA: PKR defacto leader Anwar Ibrahim today said that he is not the kind of person to go around calling people ‘barua’ (lackey).
This was his response when asked whether he was the person behind the audio clip that went viral on Thursday.
“I don’t use crude language. ‘Barua’ is not my language. Don’t be fooled by slanders.”
“I heard it too. The voice… As fierce as I am, the term ‘Barua’, I never used it,” he told reporters after giving his speech at a campaign for the Sungai Kandis by-election.
Earlier, a voice clip went viral where a voice supposedly resembling Anwar Ibrahim was lambasting Economic Affairs Minister Mohamed Azmin Ali for being Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s lackey.
Based on the audio, it was due Azmin being appointed as one of Khazanah Nasional Berhad (Khazanah) Board of Directors alongside Mahathir who was appointed as its chairman.
When asked about the perpetrators, Anwar said he has no clue but admitted that such practice is unhealthy as PKR draws closer to the party poll.
“I don’t know. Certainly its part of the impending imminent party elections. This is very unhealthy. They should fight in the open,” he said.
Anwar pointed out that based on the audio, it seems that the voice was recorded during a speech.
He explained that he never give any speeches after the Khazanah Board of Director appointment was announced.
Asked if this was intended to split the united leadership within Pakatan Harapan, Anwar is confident that they are not that easy to be tricked.
“I don’t think we are stupid enough to be that gullible. But then we have to just deny because its not true. No basis in there. No truth,” he said.
