KUALA LUMPUR – Whistle-blower site Sarawak Report today questioned the actions of Billion Dollar Whale writers for working together with Michelle Yeoh for the book’s movie adaptation.
Sarawak Report claimed that Yeoh, a Malaysian-born actress who will be producing the live action adaptation of the book, was a strong supporter of the Barisan Nasional (BN) government when they were still in power.
The site instead suggested its readers to watch Sarawak Report’s own feature film on the scandals surrounding 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) for “the real story”.
“The people who wrote a book alleging Jho Low “fooled a prime minister, the banks and the world’ have chosen a BN supporting actress Michelle Yeo [sic] to produce it! Suggest people watch the other upcoming film The Sarawak Report for the real story!,” The Sarawak Report tweeted.
It was previously reported that Sarawak Report had expressed intentions on making a movie based on its editor Clare Rewcastle-Brown’s book: The Sarawak Report: The Inside Story of the 1MDB Exposé.
This wasn’t the first time that Sarawak Report had hit out on Billion Dollar Whale, as the site had recently asked one of the writers, Tom Wright, explain how he acquired Najib Razak’s bank account details in relation to 1MDB scandals.
Wright co-authored the Billion Dollar Whale with colleague, Bradley Hope, on the story that centred around Malaysian fugitive businessman Low Taek Jho, fondly known as Jho Low who is accused of embezzling billions of dollars from 1MDB.
Earlier, it was reported by entertainment news portal Hollywood Reporter, that Yeoh will be producing the film under a deal with SK Global and its international label Ivanhoe pictures.
SK Global was the company behind box-office hit ‘Crazy Rich Asians’.
