Six illegal plastic plants seized

KLANG – Over six plastic processing plants in Jalan Permata 8A, 9, and 9A Air Hitam Industrial, were seized in an integrated operation of the Klang Municipal Council (MPK) with the Selangor Department of Environment (DOE) yesterday.

MPK Corporate Communications Director Norfiza Mahfiz said the inspection results found that the plant was operating without a license, and the machines at the factory had also been seized earlier due to breach of rules under the DOE.

“As many as seven premises is carrying out plastic processing and storage activities, MPK has imposed slander action on six premises.

“The factory owner is identified as defaulting and conducting activities on the premises without meeting the requirements set out such as the cleanliness of the premises and so on.

“The operation is carried out after receiving complaints from residents and nearby manufacturers that there is open burning activities that caused air pollution,” said Norfiza in a statement.

Norfiza said MPK also issued six notices under the Business and Industrial Trades Licensing (MPK) Law 2007.

She said closing notices were immediately issued and all premises were seized and installed yellow straps to prevent any activity at the plant.

At the same time, Norfiza said that MPK will continue to monitor periodically to ensure that the plant does not re-operate and stop its activities completely.

“Such operations continue in other areas such as Telok Gong, Pulau Indah and Pandamaran to stop illegal activities.

“We will also continue to work with other agencies to channel information if there is an illegal matter under the jurisdiction of each agency,” she added.

The operation, led by MPK’s Deputy Director of Licensing, Mohd Fharulisa Md Isa with 30 MPK enforcement personnel and DOE staff, started at 9am and ended at noon on Nov 1.
