MPAJ’s Search & Destroy Method To Rid Dengue

AMPANG – A total of 2,593 dengue cases were recorded in the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) area with three deaths reported up until 18 Dec.

His Excellency, Dato ‘Abd Hamid Hussain, said he also identified two hot spots (locality hotspot) from the 51st week of the epidemic to date.

“This location includes Bandar Baru Ampang namely Jalan Wawasan 2/1, 2/8, 2/10 and 2/12 recorded 15 cases and the epidemic exceeded 45 days.

“Meanwhile, the second hotspot in Kampung Tasik Tambahan, Jalan Tasek Tambahan 3, 3/1 to 3/5 involves seven cases and 30 days of the epidemic,” he said.

He said this when chairing the Full Meeting at Meeting Room 1, Menara MPAJ, on 24 Dec.

Abd Hamid said that as a control measure, MPAJ would be more aggressive in carrying out Inspection and Destruction Places (PTP) using the ‘Search & Destroy’ concept.

He said it was performed at about 200 radius from the sporadic and epidemic locality by inspecting the site of construction, empty land or lot, playground, recreation area, educational institution as well as public focus area.

“We are also pursuing ecosystem approaches that began on June 20 last year to identify problematic locations and potentially contribute to the increase in cases of dengue fever.

“For promotion and education activities at schools, besides talks on dengue, exhibition, PTP and distribution of leaflets, the department also provides safety and health forums to combat dengue fever virus in collaboration with the Environment Division,” he said.

He said MPAJ also held a Flower Ovitrap together with JKP and residents who gave exposure to the community about one of the dengue prevention control measures.
