KUALA SELANGOR – About 536 trees were planted along the coast of Pantai Remis in conjunction with the Kuala Selangor District Council’s Tree Planting and Cleaning Programme (MDKS).
Head of Corporate Social Investment, Group Corporate Communications UMW Corporation Sdn Bhd, Akhbar Puteh said a total of 500 shrubs and 36 Rhu trees were planted in order to conserve and preserve the area.
He said the sustainability plan was part of the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) agenda to realize the company’s sustainability objectives.
“At UMW, the environment is one of the three main CSR pillars, including community development and education.
“Since 2011 until this year, 19,600 trees have been planted by UMW volunteers through this kind of programme,” he said.
Meanwhile, MDKS secretary Azman Dahlan said his party played a key role in providing awareness to local communities and residents to work together to preserve and conserve the environment for mutual benefit.
“Congratulations to UMW for the sake of implementing this CSR programme, thereby establishing a partnership with a tree planting and beach cleaning program.
“For the record, UMW contributed RM25,000 for the purchase of trees for the programme,” he said.
