State Government Dafts New Redevelopment Guidelines

HULU KELANG – The state government is drafting a new guideline on redevelopment programmes in old housing areas.

The Housing and Urban Life EXCO, Haniza Mohamed Talha, said the guideline constructed through her portfolio will highlight two key areas.

“We want that when the redevelopment project is being carried out, the residents are not moved from the area and will remain there,” she said.

“Secondly, we will make sure if the redevelopment creates a new home, it must include a few percent of affordable housing units.”

She was speaking during a press conference on the issue of the cracking at Block F Taman Keramat Permai Apartment, here on 29 April.

At the same time, Haniza said there are already some areas that have already applied for redevelopment but should wait until the guidelines are finalized.

“Among the areas that have applied are Pandan, Petaling Jaya, Klang, Subang Jaya and Shah Alam,” she said.

Commenting on Taman Keramat Permai’s apartment, Haniza said to rebuild the area, that have to find a suitable empty area to build a new block as the first block.

“There may be a need for this area to be redeveloped but we have to figure out which empty area to build the first block,” she said.

“Another challenge is getting approval from 100 percent of unit owners who agree to rebuild this area,” Haniza added.
