MBPJ Confident in Becoming SUKANUN and SUKSES 2019 Champions

PETALING JAYA – The Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) is confident in becoming the overall champion of the Statutory Body Sports Tournament (SUKANUN) 2019 which starts on 19 July.

Petaling Jaya Mayor Dato’ Mohd Sayuthi Bakar said the target was placed after his side won the runner-up with three gold and three bronze medals involving 73 points in the previous edition.

He said MBPJ was also optimistic about maintaining the gold medal before, adding a gold medal for other events.

“Based on preparation, training and ease, I believe we can achieve the target,” he said.

“Excellence is not easy to achieve but the determination to succeed has to be in the minds of every athlete’s soul,” he said when met after the SUKANUN and Selangor Sports Squad (SUKSES) Tournament Flag Surrender Ceremony at the Arena Sports Complex, Jalan Selangor, here on 16 July.

Meanwhile, Mohd Sayuthi said that for the SUKSES tournament, the Petaling District District Council (MSD) aimed to defend the championship won since the sport was introduced.

“In the 12th SUKSES tournament, MSD Petaling contingent became the winner with 45 gold medals, 25 silver medals and 39 bronze medals left the Klang contingent and Hulu Langat.

“I hope the medal target is set to be achieved in both tournaments, especially keeping the gold medal we won in the last tournament,” he said.

A total of 250 people including athletes, secretaries and officers of the Local Authority will be sent in the biennial event which saw Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) as the host.

A total of 17 sports events from 22 tournaments will be participated by MBPJ’s athletes including football, netball, badminton, tennis, golf, chess and volleyball.

Other events include tenpin bowling, futsal, team darts, karom, sepak takraw, VIP golf and sports.

SUKANUN is scheduled to start from 19 July to 26 July, while SUKSES involves two sessions, the first session (22-25 July) and the second session (5-10 August).
