Salahuddin: Adequate supply of essential items for Deepavali

SHAH ALAM, Oct 25 — There will be adequate supply of essential items in conjunction with the Deepavali festive season, said Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister Datuk Salahuddin Ayub.

He said so far, the ministry had not received any complaints on supply problems especially on perishables as the demand for these is very high in conjunction with the Festival of Lights which will be celebrated by Malaysian Hindus this Sunday.

“As for coconuts, where the demand will spike, we have adequate supply and will be monitoring the situation and top up stocks if needed to stabilise prices,” he said after witnessing a Direct-from-Farm Sale (JTDL) organised by the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority at Aeon Mall Shah Alam here yesterday.

The event was graced by Tengku Permaisuri Selangor, Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin.

On the JTDL, Salahudin said the programme recorded sales totalling RM5.6 million from March till September and had roped in eight hypermarkets throughout the country as compared to only one (Aeon Mall Shah Alam) here last year.
