Selangor records increase in number of Syiah activity centres

SHAH ALAM, Jan 29 — There has been a significant increase in the number of Syiah activity centres in the state, according to the Selangor Islamic Religious Council (MAIS).

Its chairman Datuk Mohammed Khusrin Munawi said so far, 15 of such centres had been detected compared to three previously.

“Among the targeted areas are Puchong, Gombak and Klang,” he told reporters after handing over Peguam Syarie certificates to 47 lawyers here yesterday.

Mohammed Khusrin did not rule out that the Syiah movement in the state had been receiving support and assistance from certain parties.

“…the spread of Syiah teachings on social media has also been a challenge to us and it is difficult to trace Syiah practitioners as they would always deny and moreover the Syiah teachings are not much different from the Ahli Sunnah Wal Jamaah teachings,” he said.

As such, Mohammed Khusrin said MAIS and related agencies in the state would continue to intensify efforts to monitor the Syiah movement, at the same time would provide information on its dangers, especially at schools and mosques throughout Selangor.
