Free face masks for over 8mil households soon, says minister

SHAH ALAM, March 26 — Putrajaya will distribute free face masks to more than eight million households in the country, Astro Awani reported today.

Quoting Senior Minister (Security) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, the report said the masks would be distributed to 8.63 million households by the State and District Disaster Management Committees.

The distribution process will begin once the shipment of the face masks reaches the country.

“It has been announced by the Prime Minister (Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin) that the masks will be given for free. We are now waiting for the masks from the country we imported them from, (and) when it arrives, we will be distributing it in stages,” Ismail was quoted to have said at a press conference in Putrajaya today.

He added that the masks would also be distributed to frontliners such as Health Ministry personnel, police and military officers, and related agencies.

Ismail, who is also the Defence Minister, pointed out that the government had not received the 10 million face masks for free but had purchased them.

“The government did not get it for free as claimed by many people but the government buys it from the country (of the exporter),” he added.
