KUALA LUMPUR, April 5 — The public has been urged to remain cautious of dengue fever during the movement control order (MCO) as the number of cases are still significantly high, says the Infectious Disease Control Unit under the Selangor Health Department.
Its assistant director Dr Mohammad Nazarudin Bahari said the people should continue playing their part to ensure Aedes mosquito breeding grounds are cleared even during the Covid-19 pandemic.
“There is no scientific evidence that shows MCO can help reduce dengue cases. Therefore we must take precautionary measures by keeping our environment clean and dry.
“Residents should spray mosquito repellents indoors and may also use larvae insecticides in potted plants and bases, toilet water tanks or in any drums that can store (stagnant) water,” he told SelangorKini when contacted yesterday.
The disposal of old tires and used bags, empty plastic bottles or containers, and draining water from fountains or pools are some of the measures that could be taken to stop dengue larvae from growing.
On Friday, Selangor Health, Welfare, Women Empowerment and Family Executive Committee chairman Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud said dengue cases in Selangor had dropped and that there were no deaths reported as of last month.
However, she advised the public to take advantage of the MCO period to clean up their surroundings.
