Lembaga Zakat Selangor (LZS) chief executive officer Saipolyazan Mat Yusop said the distribution is for asnaf fakir (hardcore poor), the poor and mualaf (converts) through various type of aid and programmes.

He said LZS was also carrying out the Dapur Ramadan Asnaf Selangor (Selangor Asnaf Ramadan Kitchen) (DRAS) programme this Ramadan, with the objective of helping those in need, particularly essential supplies during the ongoing movement control order (MCO).

“Here, at the Desa Mentari people’s housing project (PPR), 300 people have received relief from this programme.

“We started this DRAS programme since Ramadan 2, and to date, we have gone to Kuala Langat, Gombak and today, Petaling district, Insya Allah, we will next go to Sepang and Klang which also includes the areas around Pulau Ketam,” he told reporters today.

Also present were Selangor deputy Mufti Dr Anhar Opir and Selangor Islamic Religious Council (Mais) member Dr Mohd Farid Ravi Abdullah.

Meanwhile, Saipolyazan said 431 mosques in Selangor are opened this Ramadan as decreed by Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah to facilitate Muslims to pay their zakat fitrah, involving 1,878 amirs (tithe collectors) fitrah assistants.
