Petaling is once again a Covid-19 red zone

By Ida Nadirah Ibrahim

SHAH ALAM, May 5 — Petaling is once again a Covid-19 red zone after the number of active infections in the district rise to 52, a jump from the previous 39 cases.

Selangor saw an increase in 21 new cases as of noon yesterday, in which 13 were recorded in Petaling, according to the data provided by the Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre of the Selangor State Health Department.

This brings the total tally in the state to 1,550 out of the accumulative 6,353 cases recorded nationwide.

The Selangor Task Force for Covid-19 (STFC) said the rise in new cases had not brought a significant impact in numbers on the other 56 townships, except for Petaling.

“This unpredictability means that the people of Selangor must practice stringent preventive measures.

“The core of the movement control order (MCO) is to keep a social distance and maintain good hygiene. This cannot be taken for granted.

“The people must continuously be disciplined in observing the precautionary measures as this is not only beneficial for ourselves but for others as well. Obey the MCO, maintain discipline,” the task force said on Facebook last night.

Selangor has three districts classified as red zones, including Gombak and Hulu Langat.

Gombak saw an increase by seven cases, pushing the total active cases in the district to 94, while the numbers in Hulu Langat dropped by one to 47 active cases.

Selangor has an ongoing 231 active cases and the death toll remains at 18.

“No deaths were reported today and the number of recoveries had outnumbered the daily cases. Congratulations to the people of Selangor and Malaysia.

“We are sure that the public is aware of Selangor’s modified conditional movement control order (MCMCO) and we would like to remind the people that this does not mean things should be taken for granted,” the task force added.
