Selangor cautious in reopening of economic sectors, says MB

SHAH ALAM, May 5 — The Selangor government had taken cautious measures in reopening the economic sectors in the state by imposing its own modification to the conditional movement control order (CMCO).

Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the steps taken by the state administration were necessary to avoid the emergence of a new Covid-19 cluster.

He said the state government held a series of discussions at all levels on the reopening of business sectors since the third movement control order (MCO), which was enforced almost three weeks ago on April 15.

“I believe the decision made by Selangor is within the existing laws.

“This transition period requires us not to become complacent or less cautious, which can result in large Covid-19 clusters emerging, such as the Seri Petaling cluster,” he told a press conference after attending the Selangor Economic Action Council (MTES) meeting today.

Amirudin was commenting on the statement made by Senior Minister for International Trade and Industry Ministry Datuk Seri Azmin Ali yesterday, which urged all state governments to fully adhere to the CMCO.

Azmin also said industry players from the business sectors could initiate legal action against the states for not complying with the conditional MCO.

Amirudin said the priority now is to maintain good hygiene habits.

He said he believes that the cordial relations between the state government and the businesses and investors will boost the economic sector after being hit by the Covid-19 pandemic.

On Sunday, Selangor had announced it would impose the modified conditional movement control order (MCMCO), which had added in several of its own conditions such as banning dine-ins at restaurants and eateries in the state.

Other states including Terengganu, Perak, Kelantan, Penang, and Melaka, had also implemented limitations of their own to the conditional MCO.
