Selangor to brief on readiness of local authorities for conditional MCO, says MB

By Norrasyidah Arshad

SHAH ALAM, May 2 — Selangor will have a briefing tomorrow on the readiness of its local authorities in monitoring the operations of several key sectors beginning Monday.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said this was to ensure that the premises would abide by the standard operating procedures (SOPs) provided set by the Federal government to curb the emergence of new Covid-19 clusters or infections.

“A lot of the job scopes are under the purview of the local authorities. We will review their readiness and see how many per cent of the sectors would be allowed to fully operate.

“If we allow the operations to continue with the SOP in place but the enforcement is lacking, then this would most likely bring forth new cases or clusters and we would want to avoid that (from happening),” he said when met after chairing a special meeting held at the Selangor Covid-19 operation centre here today.

Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin had yesterday revealed the implementation of the CMCO effective May 4, which will allow the restarting of several economic sectors and social activities.

This includes the dine-ins at all food and beverage outlets under strict conditions set by the authorities as well as outdoor activities that do not involve close contact or group gatherings, such as jogging, cycling, golf and running in small groups of not more than 10.
