SHAH ALAM, July 22 — Malaysia has recorded double digits in new Covid-19 cases for four days in a row with 16 infections registered as of noon today.

Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said this brings the cumulative figure of positive cases to 8,831 with 142 active cases with infectivity.

He said eight of the new cases involved local transmissions, which includes seven Malaysians in Sarawak and one foreign citizen who was detected through a screening procedure to travel abroad.

“Eight of the total new cases were imported infections which include four locals and four foreigners travelling into the country for work purposes.

“Two cases were from India and Russia each, and one each from Saudi Arabia, China, Indonesia, and Korea,” Dr Noor Hisham said in a statement today.

As of now, five positive Covid-19 cases are still being treated in the Intensive Care Unit, with one requiring ventilator support.

Dr Noor Hisham said four cases had recovered and were discharged today, bringing the total number of recoveries to 8,566, or 96.9 per cent of the total cases.

“No deaths were reported today and the death toll remained at 123,” he added.
