Selangor introduces SELangkad for OKU citizens

By Khairul Azran Hussin

SHAH ALAM, Aug 11 — Selangor has introduced SELangkad (Step in, safely card) which is a system that allows a seamless process for people with different abilities (OKU) to register themselves when entering a business or government premise.

Head of the Selangor Task Force for Covid-19 (STFC) Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said the cardholders would only be required to present the card at the premises to have the QR code scanned, which would ease the registration process for the OKU citizens.

“Alhamdulillah (thank God) this is part of our commitment… STFC introduces SELangkad to achieve UHC (universal healthcare coverage) and ensure that no one is left behind.

“This was especially (made) for those with visual impairment and other abilities,” he said in a Twitter post today.

In a separate post on the SELangkah Squad official Twitter account, SELangkad is said to be a low-tech and inclusive solution for Covid-19 contract tracing for the OKU group.

“We know its difficult for OKUs to operate a smartphone to scan a QR code.

“So we start to issue a unique QR card for the OKUs, and the shopowners can scan their card whenever they visit a shop,” the post stated.

Those interested to know further may WhatsApp the SELangkah Squad at 014-3025655.

Checks by SelangorKini found that applicants are currently required to WhatsApp the given phone number to obtain the card.

“The applicants are required to provide their name, phone number, address and OKU card number to receive the SELangkad card, which will be posted to the recipient the soonest possible.

“The card is provided for free,” a representative from the SELangkah Squad told SelangorKini.

The SELangkah system was introduced on May 4 as to ease the Covid-19 contact tracing process.

Premise owners are required to print the QR code via the websites selangkah.mbiselangor.com.my or selangkah.my and have it displayed for visitors to scan.
