Strong earthquake in Samar, Philippines

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 18 — An earthquake measuring 6.6 on the Richter scale struck Samar, Philippines at 8.03am today.

According to a statement from the Malaysian Meteorological Department, the quake occurred 51 kilometres west of Calbayog City, Philippines, with a depth of 10 kilometres.

The quake did not pose a tsunami threat to Malaysia.
