High-tide phenomenon predicted in five coastal districts in Selangor till November

SHAH ALAM, Sept 4 — The phenomenon of high tide, with sea levels reaching up to 5.8 metres, is predicted to hit the coast in five districts in Selangor from this month until November.

The Selangor Disaster Management Unit (UPBN) in a statement yesterday said the high-tide phenomenon is expected to occur on Sept 19 and 20, Oct 17 to 19, and also Nov 15 and 16.

According to the statement, 51 areas in five districts namely Klang, Sepang, Kuala Langat, Kuala Selangor and Sabak Bernam, have been identified with a high risk of flooding if the phenomenon is accompanied by heavy rains and strong winds.

“Residents in high-risk areas are advised to always comply with the instructions of security authorities,” said the statement.

Therefore, to face any possible flood disaster, UPBN is ready to open 21 evacuation centres if the need arises.
