BANTING, Sept 9 — The Kuala Langat District Council (MDKL) has officially upgraded to Kuala Langat Municipal Council (MPKL) beginning today, after receiving the consent of the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj.

The launch of the historic event was held at Dewan Seri Jugra, here, which was officiated by Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari and accompanied by MPKL president Dato’ Amirul Azizan Abd Rahim.

Amirul Azizan said efforts to upgrade the status from district to municipal council had begun in 2007 and the gazetting of the new status declaration was done on March 1.

“History was written on September 9, and Kuala Langat continues to shine.

“MPKL’s success in acquiring the status upgrade to municipal council was the result of the many years of hard work in convincing the state government and the Housing and Local Government Ministry,” he said during the launching ceremony.

Amirul Azizan said that with the new status, MPKL introduces a new tag line, ‘Indah, Harmoni dan Bestari’ (Beautiful, Harmonious, and Smart), as well as a new logo which shows the council’s office building in red and yellow.

He said the local council is committed to meet the needs of the people and to provide efficient and quality service that would contribute to the wellbeing of all.

“The year 2020 is a start for MPKL to carve its success and a new decade on the implementation and delivery of services that are focused on providing the best services.

“We will also formulate high-impact development projects, including public infrastructure, boosting tourist locations, as well as preserving the historical heritage and the environment, in line with sustainable development,” he said.
