KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 3 — Two car drivers drove their vehicles into the motorcycle lane along the Federal Highway while travelling from Kuala Lumpur to Klang recently, and told police later they had ended up there by following the directions of a traffic navigation app.
Petaling Jaya District Police chief Assistant Commissioner Nik Ezanee Mohd Faisal said the incidents happened on Aug 28 and 30 and involved a Perodua Bezza and a Toyota Vios, respectively. The drivers, a man and a woman, were both aged 33.
Motorcyclists using the lane at that time took video recordings of the incident and uploaded the videos on social media, which caught the attention of the police.
Nik Ezanee said the police received two reports made by a police officer yesterday at the Petaling Jaya District Police Headquarters. The officer had viewed the videos that had gone viral at about noon yesterday, he added.
“One video showed the Toyota Vios driven by a man and the other the Perodua Bezza driven by a woman, and both vehicles were on the motorcycle lane,” he said in a statement today.
Nik Ezanee said the police contacted the two drivers for an investigation and they said they had followed the directions given by the traffic navigation app and entered the motorcycle lane.
He said the drivers said they realised they had made a mistake after seeing many motorcyclists on the lane.
“Several motorcyclists asked them to stop and showed them the way out of the lane to the highway,” he said.
