Agong advises all MPs to fully support Budget 2021

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 28 — The Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah today advised all Members of Parliament (MPs) to fully support Budget 2021 to ensure the wellbeing of the people and the recovery of the country’s economy which has been affected by Covid-19.

Comptroller of the Royal Household Datuk Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin said His Majesty stressed that it was very important for the government and the authorities, especially the frontliners, to continue implementing policies and making efforts to curb the threats of the pandemic.

“Al-Sultan Abdullah also called on the MPs to heed the royal advice to immediately stop the politicking and to give priority to the people’s wellbeing so that Budget 2021 could be passed without any disruption.

“His Majesty also reminded the MPs that engaging themselves in political disputes for personal interest will only bring harm to the country and the people, especially when the country is still struggling to face the threats of Covid-19,” he said.

Ahmad Fadil said this in a statement issued by Istana Negara after Al-Sultan Abdullah granted an audience to Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin for their weekly pre-Cabinet meeting at Istana Negara today.

According to Ahmad Fadil, during the audience which lasted over an hour, Al-Sultan Abdullah was also briefed about the Budget which will be tabled in Parliament on Nov 6.

The pre-Cabinet meeting is a weekly activity or main routine of Al-Sultan Abdullah to discuss and exchange ideas with the prime ministers on current issues and government affairs.

He said His Majesty also expressed hope that Budget 2021 would emphasise on the country’s economic recovery as well as the wellbeing and the survival of the people affected by the global spread of Covid-19.

He added that Al-Sultan Abdullah also expressed full confidence in Muhyiddin’s ability to helm the government amid pressing challenges and crises.
