Anwar to have audience with Agong on Oct 13

SHAH ALAM, Oct 8 — Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is granted an audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah on October 13.

In a media statement today, the former deputy prime minister was grateful for the King’s recovery from a recent illness and expressed his gratitude to His Majesty for granting him an audience.

Anwar said he will present his case to the King to support his claim that he has garnered “formidable and convincing” support from among MPs to form a new “strong” government.

“At the meeting, I will present documentation of the strong and convincing majority of MPs as I mentioned earlier.

“I ask all Malaysians to remain calm, protect their health and continue to pray from their homes and workplaces and follow the recovery movement control order (RMCO) procedures,” read the statement.

On September 23, Anwar told a packed news conference at a hotel in Kuala Lumpur that he had received consent to have an audience with the King a day earlier but the audience was postponed after His Majesty was admitted to the National Heart Institute (IJN) for treatment.

He claimed to have a strong and convincing number of MPs which is not a small majority yet cut short of stating the figure.

“This strong and convincing support means that, at this moment, the government of Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has fallen,” said Anwar in the news conference.

The King had undergone treatment at the IJN on September 21 for food poisoning and intervention treatment for knees and ankles injuries. His Majesty was discharged on October 2.
