RM2.2 mln collected in bids for ‘KEY’ number plate

ALOR SETAR, Oct 15 — Kedah Road Transport Department (RTD) has collected more than RM2.2 million for the KEY registration number series during a five-day bidding process from October 9.

Its director, Isma Suhaimi Sharif said KEY 5 registration number commanded the highest sum of RM88,000 via the Online Vehicle Registration Number Bidding System (JPJeBid).

“The bidding process involving a total of 2,765 bidders managed to collect RM2.209 million. The previous KEW registration number fetched a total of RM980,862 while for KEX plate series more than RM1.3 million was collected.

“JPJeBid offers transparency starting from the registration process until payment is made. Bidders can find out about their bids directly. Members of the public who are interested to place their bid can access the JPJeBid system online or call 04-7404888,” he told reporters here today.

On another matter, Isma Suhaimi said the department had issued a total of 1,081 summonses to road users since September 1 for various offences through its Special Operations aimed at reducing the rate of accidents and deaths on the road besides cultivating prudent driving among drivers of private, public and commercial vehicles.

“A total of 5,314 vehicles were inspected and among the offences were carrying dangerous loads, tinted mirrors and registration plates not adhering to specifications,” he said.
