SHAH ALAM, Nov 30 — The Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) has issued 287 compound notices this year to those who have illegally dumped wastes in areas under its purview.

Its mayor Dato’ Mohd Sayuthi Bakar said out of the total, 61 compounds were issued during enforcement operations carried out in October.

He said the operation had also identified illegal dumping hot spots in Petaling Jaya.

“The objective of the operation is to educate the people in Petaling Jaya to build awareness of environmental cleanliness.

“It is also to ensure that the city remains sustainable, resilient and dynamic,” he said in his address during the council’s full board meeting today.

Mohd Sayuthi said to ease surveillance in Petaling Jaya, the local council have installed closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras in several locations across the city.

He said the installation of the CCTV is also part of the local council’s efforts to make Petaling Jaya as a smart city.
