SHAH ALAM, Nov 4 — Selangor recorded RM3.39 billion worth of investment for the manufacturing sector as of June this year involving 122 projects.

Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said a total of RM1.83 billion were from local investments, while RM1.56 billion through foreign investments.

He said the food manufacturing industry recorded the highest amount with RM1.16 billion, followed by electrical and electronics (RM638.65 million), and beverages and tobacco (RM9 million).

“If you look at the data released by the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (Mida) in September for all sectors, Selangor recorded an investment growth of more than RM11 billion.

“Last year, we recorded RM47.8 billion for all sectors, but I think everyone understands that due to the Covid-19 situation, it has affected the industries in our country,” he said when answering a question from Hulu Bernam assemblyman Datuk Rosni Sohar at the Selangor State Legislative Assembly sitting here today.

Amirudin added, apart from efforts to attract investment, the state government also helps investors resolve issues that arise through project coordination meetings held every month.

“In providing a conducive and comfortable environment for the industrial area to investors, the state government through local councils held meetings with the Industrial Park Management Committee (IPMC) to help resolve issues that arise.

“The state administration is confident that the efforts that were drafted and implemented to encourage investment are able to bring confidence to investors to invest and add to their existing investments,” he said.
