No worker climbs fence to escape Top Glove EMCO — Police

SHAH ALAM, Nov 27 — Police clarified that no worker at the Top Glove hostel in Meru, Klang, which is under the enhanced movement control order (EMCO), has climbed the fence to get out of the area.

A Selangor police Special Covid-19 spokesman ACP Muhammad Yazid Muhammad Yew said the circulated picture on social media showing male workers climbing the hostel fence was not in order to get out as claimed but they were actually reentering the place to be quarantined.

“An investigation found out that the fence climbing incident which circulated took place on the first day of the EMCO at the Top Glove’s workers hostel on November 17 before the Covid-19 screening was implemented.

“They climbed the fence as it was an easy way to reenter the hostel because the barbed wire fences were being put up by the security personnel on duty,” he told a media conference here, yesterday.

Muhammad Yazid said further investigation also found that several male workers in the circulated photo had been identified and they were currently undergoing quarantine at the hostel until to date.

As such, he said the allegation on social media that the workers at the Top Glove hostel ran away from screening tests was not true, in fact, no report concerning such an issue was received after the picture circulated since several days ago.

He added that the security control at the EMCO was proceeding smoothly and the workers at the hostel co-operated when the Covid-19 screening test was implemented.

Muhammad Yazid also warned the public against disseminating false information which could disrupt public order.

The EMCO at the Top Glove workers’ hostel was enforced on November 17 until next Monday following an increase in positive Covid-19 positive cases involving the Teratai Cluster.
