UPM continues to improve in QS Asia University ranking

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 28 — Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) has been ranked 28th  best university in Asia this year, recording its own history by consistently making impressive improvement in the latest Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) Asia University Rankings 2021, for seven consecutive years.

UPM climbed up five spots from the previous 33rd position last year, thus placing itself as Malaysia’s second-best university, behind Universiti Malaya in the ninth place, according to the report which was released on Wednesday.

Touching on the achievement, UPM vice-chancellor Professor Dr Mohd Roslan Sulaiman said that the Faculty Staff with PhD and Inbound Exchange Student indicators were seen as UPM’s main strength with 100 per cent scoring while Outbound Exchange Student scored 99.99 per cent overall.

He said that this proved the high quality of UPM academic officers and the effectiveness of UPM’s mobility programme which gave a positive impact in creating strategic cooperation with international institutions.

“The five-step jump is an impressive performance for UPM given the competition and quite encouraging performance from regional institutions, apart from facing the latest global challenge, the Covid-19 pandemic.

“The pandemic has, to some extent, affected the operations of the global higher education sector,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Ten local universities – seven public and three private – are among the 110 best universities in Asia based on the QS World University Rankings: Asia 2021 report.
