Daily Covid-19 cases in Selangor drop to 249, two new clusters detected

SHAH ALAM, Dec 2 — Selangor’s daily count of new Covid-19 cases dropped to 249 today but had recorded the highest transmissions by state.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said this represents 74.6 per cent out of the 334 cases registered in the Klang Valley.

The total daily infections registered nationwide is at 851.

“The second highest today was recorded in Sabah with 229 cases followed by Johor with 102 cases,” he said at a press conference on the country’s daily Covid-19 development in Putrajaya today.

Dr Noor Hisham said two out of the four new clusters detected today had involved the Gombak district, namely the Desa Pinang and the Impian Clusters.

“The Desa Pinang Cluster, which involves Kepong, Lembah Pantai, Titiwangsa and Cheras in the Federal Territory as well as Gombak in Selangor, was identified on November 28. The Impian Cluster, which also involves the Gombak district, was identified on November 29,” he said.

Dr Noor Hisham said out of the total daily infections recorded in Selangor, 82 were from existing clusters including five from both the new Impian and Desa Pinang Clusters, 86 cases from close-contact screenings and 81 others were from other Covid-19 screenings.

Meanwhile, based on the data by the Selangor State Health Department’s Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre (CPRC), the Klang district recorded the highest new daily infections with 95 cases.

This was followed by Hulu Langat with 52 new cases, Petaling (51), Kuala Langat (23), Gombak (10), Kuala Selangor (9), Sepang (8) and Hulu Selangor (1).

Sabak Bernam registered no new cases today.

As of noon today, the cumulative number of Covid-19 cases in Selangor stands at 15,075 out of the nationwide total 68,020 cases.
