Delayed Jalan Rawang-Batang Berjuntai project to complete March 2022

SHAH ALAM, Dec 6 — The upgrading works on Jalan B27, Jalan Rawang-Batang Berjuntai (Phase 2) which was suspended since August last year following issues with the previous contractor, is now expected to be completed by March 2022.

Rawang state assemblyman Chua Wei Kiat said the project, dubbed a ‘sick’ project due to its delay, connects the junction at Bandar Country Homes to the borders of the Kuala Selangor district, and works by its new contractor appointed at the end of October are running smoothly.

“The Public Work Department (PWD) had appointed the current contractor to complete the remaining works at the area within 18 months at the expense of RM35 million,” he said.

“The difference this time is the contractor will improve the river alignment and solve the bottleneck at roads facing Kampung Sungai Bakau and Jalan Saujana Rawang,” Chua told SelangorKini.

He said for the early stages of the project reimplementation, the contractor was instructed to focus on the road resurfacing works at the said location to overcome flood issues.

“As soon as the road resurfacing works is completed, they can proceed with heavier and more comprehensive works to ensure that the project is completed within the given time frame,” he said.

In October 2018, Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari visited the project site to understand and find solutions for issues revolving around the project.

In the meeting, the state government of Selangor had decided to appoint a different contractor to rescue the project, and to end the (current) contract should the assigned works fail to be completed.

In February last year, PWD found the project had been moving too slowly thus the department ended the contract with the contractor and conducted a reassessment before appointing a new contractor.
