MB: Surge in Covid-19 cases due to screening of foreign workers

SHAH ALAM, Dec 10 — The upsurge in Covid-19 new infections in Selangor yesterday was due to the screening of foreign workers and targeted mass testing, says its Menteri Besar.

Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the situation is still under control and had reminded the public to continue adhering to the standard operating procedure (SOP) to curb the spread of Covid-19.

“Selangor has recorded a high number of new cases today (yesterday) following the screening of foreign workers as well as the mass testing operation carried out by employers and state government agencies for the Seruling Cluster in Klang and the Hentian Cluster in Hulu Langat.

“Things are still under control, continue abiding by the SOP and keep up the discipline to break the chain of infection,” he said on Twitter last night.

He added the state government will continue to monitor the Covid-19 situation and its cooperation with the Health Ministry.

Yesterday, Selangor saw a total of 1,428 new infections, which was a high jump compared to the 277 cases recorded on Wednesday.
