Selangor allocates RM5 mln to fight dengue

By Khairul Azran Hussin

SHAH ALAM, Dec 9 — A total of RM5 million funds has been allocated for the fight against dengue in Selangor, says Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

The Selangor Menteri Besar said the initiative would facilitate healthcare officers in carrying out preventive and control measures across the state.

“About 34 lives have been lost as of August 23 due to dengue and the state government does not take the matter lightly.

“Apart from that, the latest report has shown that the number of dengue cases in the state has dropped by 36.1 per cent, or 24,385 cases, with 152 outbreaks identified,” he said in a Facebook post yesterday.

Amirudin had urged the public to spend only 10 minutes a week to ensure that the Aedes mosquito breeding spots are eliminated.

“We have to make sure that all unused stagnant water is discarded or treated with Aedes mosquitoes larvae killer,” he said.

Yesterday, the Selangor State Health Department director said dengue cases in Selangor has dropped with a total of 43,215 infections in the 49th week compared to the 67,600 cases recorded over the same period last year.

Dato’ Dr Sha’ari Ngadiman said the top five districts registering the highest number of cases include Petaling with 15,040 cases, Hulu Langat (9,442), Klang (6,814), Gombak (6,390) and Sepang (2,353).
