Shopee kicks off 12.12 birthday sale with 4 times more sales

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 12 — Shopee kicked off its fifth 12.12 Birthday Sale on a strong note with four times more items sold in the first hour compared to that of 2019.

In a statement today, Shopee said shopping activity surged at midnight on December 12, with home and living, groceries, as well as health and beauty products were the most sought after during the first eight hours of sales.

It said customers were stocking up on essentials, especially food items.

“As stay-at-home efforts continue, Malaysians are found to be peckish with over 200,000 units of snacks sold in the first eight hours of December 12.

“Meanwhile, Milo continues to be Malaysians’ favourite chocolate malt beverage with two units sold every second,” it said.

Meanwhile, parents were seen buying back-to-school items in preparation for the new year, with over 190,000 stationery items were sold on Shopee.

It said more than 53,000 units of school uniforms, bags, shoes, and pencil cases, among others, were sold in total.

In addition, both men and women were seen to be shopping for health and beauty needs, with skincare items and lipsticks were especially popular with over 210,000 items and 37,000 units sold, respectively.
