Smart Selangor Bus to use ‘Tap to Ride’ by end of Dec

By Nadiah Zamlus

PUCHONG, Dec 6 — The Smart Selangor Bus is expected to start using the ‘Tap to Ride’ system by the end of this month, said state executive councillor for public transportation Ng Sze Han.

Ng said two bus routes will be used in the pilot project to test the effectiveness of the system.

“We have yet to decide whether passengers would be using their identity cards or a dedicated (mobile) application for the ‘Tap to Ride’ system,” he said after distributing 2021 calendars to the public at the Puchong Jaya morning market yesterday.

He said the most suitable method will be decided by the Smart Selangor Delivery Unit.

The ‘Tap to Ride’ application enables users to pay for their bus fares via cards or scanning of QR codes.

Malaysian citizens only have to produce their national registration identity card (MyKad) to ride the Smart Selangor Bus for free.

The effort is in line with the Selangor state government’s aim to create a cashless society as it gears towards becoming a Smart State in Asean by 2025.
