Former Lembah Jaya assemblyman Ismail Kijo dies

SHAH ALAM, Feb 3 — Former state assemblyman for Lembah Jaya, Datuk Ismail Kijo died at 12.30pm today at the Sungai Buloh Hospital, near here.

Selangor Umno Liaison Committee secretary Datuk Kamaruzzaman Johari when contacted said, Ismail, 69, was admitted to the hospital on January 18 after he was tested positive for Covid-19.

He said Ismail, who was also Ampang Umno division chief was diagnosed with lymphoma a year ago and had been receiving treatment at University of Malaya Medical Centre and Ampang Puteri Hospital.

“Even though he had his ups and downs going through lymphoma cancer, he remained committed to party activities.

“On January 16, Ismail told me he had been coughing for almost a week and was going for a Covid-19 screening test. The result was positive and two days later he was sent to Sungai Buloh Hospital for treatment.

“Ismail was a good friend,” Kamaruzzaman said adding that Ministry of Health staff would be taking care of the funeral and the burial location has not been determined.

Ismail was Lembah Jaya state assemblyman for three terms from 1995 until 2008.
