Three Pakatan reps organise Covid-19 screening

By Nadiah Zamlus

SHAH ALAM, Feb 6 — Three Pakatan Harapan (PH) parliament and state representatives are offering Covid-19 screening priced at RM50 which will be held today and tomorrow.

The screening initiative is hosted by Sungai Buloh MP Sivarasa Rasiah, Petaling Jaya MP Maria Chin Abdullah and Bukit Lanjan state assemblyman Elizabeth Wong.

“With the help of a group of very enthusiastic young doctors, the Sungai Buloh, Petaling Jaya and Bukit Lanjan representatives would be able to offer Covid-19 Testing.

“We are working together with Taman Medan and Seri Setia constituencies,” wrote Maria on her Facebook page.

Through a joint statement, the three representatives said the programme will take place at four different locations starting from 9am until 3pm.

The first 100 pre-registration at each venue will be charged a discounted price of RM50 for the Antigen rapid test (RTK-Ag).

“Subsequent prices are set at RM 70 (RTK-Ag) and RM 180 for the RT-PCR (real-time reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction).

“We are stepping in after seeing that the infection has spread into the community in Selangor and lockdowns are now proving to be relatively less effective in this situation,” the statement read.

The two-day weekend programme was said to be a pilot project and may extend it depending on the take-up rate and any changes to the rate of infection, especially in the Petaling district.

“Affordable and rapid Covid19 tests using RTK-Ag is one method to prevent morbidity and mortality due to delayed Covid19 diagnosis.”

The statement also stated that the Selangor State Health Department (JKNS) should start releasing critical data to the Selangor government.

“Results of the RTK-Antigen tests will be known on the same day whereas the PCR tests will take around 3 days,” they added.
