Industrial sector urges Selangor govt to obtain Covid-19 vaccine supply

SUBANG JAYA, March 1 — The Selangor government has received requests from several industrial companies to obtain the Covid-19 vaccine supply to protect their workers from the infection.

State executive councillor for public health Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud said the administration will give priority to these companies that have reached out to the state government to apply and pay for the vaccines.

“These industrial companies have requested for us to obtain the vaccine and are willing to pay for the cost so that they can immediately immunise their workers (against the Covid-19 disease).

“However, there has been some form of control from the Federal government during these preliminary stages as there is a concern of insufficient supply,” she said after visiting the free Covid-19 community screening programme at the Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) Multipurpose Hall in Taman Puchong Indah, here, yesterday.

The Seri Serdang assemblyman said the companies concerned had also expressed interest to join the Preventing and Detecting Outbreaks at Ignition Sites (POIS) programme.

“In Selangor, we acknowledge the group that is most exposed to the Covid-19 outbreak which is the workers’ group. Once contraction occurs, it spreads very rapidly.

“The approach taken by these companies is towards ensuring that their factory operations will not be disrupted and this also goes towards reducing the infection rate aside from continuing to curb the spread of the disease,” she said.

A total of two to five million doses of Covid-19 vaccine purchased by the Selangor government are expected to arrive by May or June.

Aside from lightening the burden of the Federal government, the move taken by the state administration is to ensure sufficient vaccine supply for the people of Selangor.
