MB: Effectiveness of EMCO will be seen in three weeks

SHAH ALAM, July 5 — The effectiveness of the enhanced movement control order (EMCO) in Selangor, which was implemented beginning July 3, could only be seen in the next three weeks, says Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

The Menteri Besar said based on previous experience, the number of Covid-19 positive cases will show a decline when approaching the third week after the EMCO is imposed.

“What matters now is we have a new ‘weapon’, which is the vaccine. I think while having the EMCO imposed for two weeks in most of the areas in the state, it is also the best time to focus on vaccination.

“As for the vaccination process, we are focusing on two aspects namely the vaccine supply and the vaccinator.

“The Selangor State Health Department and PH (ProtectHealth) Corporation have agreed to synchronise the resources including the vaccine supply and the number of vaccinators involved in the programme as well as mobilising the people to come for their vaccine appointments,” he said during a press conference broadcast live on Facebook today.

Earlier, Amirudin had visited the first vaccination programme held at an area placed under the EMCO, at Mentari Court in PJS 8, Petaling Jaya.

Amirudin said 1,553 residents of Mentari Court had received the first dose of vaccines under the programme.

The high-rise residential area has seven apartment blocks with a total of 3,469 units housing some 17,000 residents. Mentari Court has entered its fifth day under the EMCO since its 14-day enforcement beginning July 1.

A total of 34 sub-districts from eight districts in Selangor were also imposed under the EMCO for 14 days from July 3, following the continuous spike in daily Covid-19 cases.

Meanwhile, Amirudin said the number of infections detected at factories is expected to decline in the next three weeks as well.

“Most of the factories were already briefed by the police under Ops Patuh and we will continue to cooperate with the Home Ministry,” said Amirudin when asked on allegations that several factories in the state are still operating during the movement restrictions period.

“The number of infections was overtaken by events, hence we expect to reduce it or it will be limited (only happen) to close circles within the family.”
