Selangor allocates RM40,000 incentive for state’s Tokyo bound athletes

SHAH ALAM, July 8 — The Selangor state government has allocated RM40,000 for athletes from the state who have qualified for the Tokyo Olympic Games scheduled to begin on July 23.

State Youth, Sports and Human Capital Development Committee chairman Mohd Khairuddin Othman said the four athletes, namely Phee Jing En (swimming), Lee Hup Wei (high jump), Gavin Kyle Green (golf) and Farah Ann Abdul Hadi (artistic gymnastics) would be given RM10,000 each for preparation and expenses there.

“When they succeed in bringing back a medal, we will discuss in the executive council meeting on how to reward them,” he said during an online meeting which was also attended by Phee, Lee and Farah Ann.

During the meeting, Lee, who picked up an ankle injury at the Qasanov Memorial Athletics Championship in Almaty, Kazakhstan, last month, said he was ready for the Olympic Games.

“I am prepared, it’s just that I need to polish my technique for jumping,” he said.
