Selangor plans to help art practitioners produce creative works

SHAH ALAM, July 21 — Selangor plans to help art practitioners by encouraging them to produce creative products that include recording the pandemic event that is hitting the country.

Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari explained the collaboration with the state executive councillor for culture Borhan Aman Shah will be announced soon.

Amirudin is also researching the appropriate approaches to assist artists and art groups involved in cultural activities, including filming and singing.

“…to be able to contribute their thoughts in the form of creative products that will be partly funded by the state government, so that they can continue living their life in the difficult time during this pandemic,” he said.

Speaking at the Hadiah Sastera Selangor (HSS) 2020 awards ceremony which was broadcasted on Media Selangor’s Facebook page last night, Amirudin said he realised that many art practitioners could not continue producing creative products like before.

However, he stressed that the pandemic required the creative groups to capture this important moment in human history, either through films, paintings, songs and photography.

“I want them to contribute their products and creativity to think about how we look when faced with this crisis, how our faces look when going through these difficult moments.

“What are the challenges ahead, what are the angles and frames that may not be visible to those who cannot delve into every event and moment that we went through,” he said.

Organised since 2015 when Amirudin was the state executive councillor for culture, HSS 2020 organised by Media Selangor Sdn Bhd (Media Selangor) had received encouraging responses every year.
