Selangor Xtiv Virtual records 160,000 participation as of July

SHAH ALAM, July 28 —The Selangor Xtiv Virtual 2021 e-sports challenge has attracted some 160,000 participants as of July 2021, says Mohd Khairuddin Othman.

The state executive councillor for sports said that the figure represents 35 per cent of its target of 450,000 overall entries for the year.

“We are excited to have received an overwhelming response among the younger generation.

“We are confident that the programme and the (successful) record would make Selangor lead and also become the only state in Malaysia to have successfully organised such an event.

“It is in line with Selangor’s digitalisation agenda as the catalyst for Malaysia’s leading smart state,” he said in a statement today.

Mohd Kahiruddin added that this also proves that Selangor is not left behind in adapting to the current revolution of the Internet of Things (IoT), especially during the pandemic, which had demanded governments to accelerate the process of a holistic and sustainable digitalisation agenda.

The Selangor Xtiv Virtual 2021 offers seven competitions from March to December with a total prize pool of RM411,680.

The challenges include Selangor XTIV Virtual E-Sports, Selangor XTIV Virtual Marathon, Selangor XTIV Virtual Martial Art, Selangor XTIV Virtual Martial Art, Selangor XTIV Virtual Youth Busking, Selangor XTIV Virtual Jump Rope and Selangor XTIV Virtual Chess.

A new addition, the Selangor XTIV Virtual Ride, is now open for registration starting today.

Last year, the programme received an unexpected response involving 250,631 entries and 18 million views on social media platforms.
