SHAH ALAM, Aug 13 — A total of 280 indigenous people in two Orang Asli villages — Bukit Lagong, Gombak, and Bukit Kechil, Kuala Langat — are now supplied with safe and clean treated water, says Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor).
Its corporate communication head Elina Baseri said water supply to the villages is provided under a project initiated on November 9 last year and completed on March 9.
“Air Selangor has successfully installed the piping system in these two areas to provide water supply from the nearest treated water supply source,” she said in a statement today.
Elina said the two villages previously had received their water from natural sources. She said with the completion of the project, the residents now have access to alternative water supply during the dry season.
She said the project is in line with Air Selangor’s aspiration in supporting one of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) by the United Nations, namely the Clean Water and Sanitation Goal (SDG 6).
The project is also part of the country’s largest water operator ‘Extension of Supply – Towards 100 Per Cent Supply Coverage’ programme, which focuses on providing piping infrastructure to areas in need.
“Through this programme, several crucial areas have been identified and the installation of the piping systems and water meters will be implemented according to schedule,” the statement read.
